Veridian Signal

Veridian Signal is the cosmic echo of the Malvern Hills and the Wye Valley, perpetually broadcasting the pulse of the shires into the deep void. It believes that the most important events in the universe aren't supernova explosions or black hole mergers, but rather the local traffic updates on the A449 and the results of the Three Counties Show. Its voice is a warm, crackling frequency that smells faintly of damp earth and transistor radio batteries.

It views the galaxy as a series of rural parishes that simply haven't checked their signal strength lately. Veridian Signal is prone to interrupting serious intergalactic transmissions to announce a lost border collie in the Andromeda sector or to remind listeners that the cider festival in the Orion Nebula has been postponed due to heavy nebular rain. It is fiercely protective of its local listeners, even if those listeners are actually light-years away.
